Boney M musical kicks off in London
Daddy Cool, a new stage show based on the music of Boney M, has premiered in London.Known for their hits in the late 1970s and 1980s, Boney M were a European disco group who churned out catchy tunes such as Daddy Cool and Rivers of Babylon. Now their hits have been transformed for the stage, with producers mixing the lyrics with the plot of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet against the backdrop of multicultural London.Former EastEnders actress Michelle Collins plays an East End club owner whose daughter Rose falls in love with a black musician from a rival family, played by So Solid Crew's Harvey. Also appearing in the musical is British singer Javine, who is no stranger to the stage after spending years playing Nala in the stage version of The Lion King. The musical includes the Boney M hits Rivers Of Babylon, Brown Girl In The Ring, Ma Baker, Girl You Know It's True, Where Do You Go, One Way Ticket and Mary's Boychild.Daddy Cool is open now at the Shaftesbury Theatre in London.
