Jack Nicholson was hospitalised this week for a gland condition.
The 69-year-old screen legend checked himself into Los Angeles' Cedars - Sinai Hospital on Monday (11.09.06) to be treated for a salivary gland problem.
Nicholson's spokesperson Sandy Bresler confirmed he had been admitted to hospital but did not elaborate any further on his condition.
The screen icon, famous for his roles in 'One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest', 'The Shining' and 'Batman', has apparently suffered from the condition throughout his life.
Meanwhile, Nicholson is starring in Martin Scorsese's new movie 'The Departed'.
In the film, the actor plays the head of a Mafia gang that is infiltrated by an undercover police officer at the same time as one of the Mob members infiltrates the special investigation unit of the Boston police force.Nicholson is convinced the movie, which also stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Matt Damon, could be the movie that finally wins Scorsese his first Oscar.
He said: "Martin has made some great films, but this one is his best."
