Mira joins George in Darfur rally
Actress Mira Sorvino has joined 'Ocean's Eleven' star George Clooney in speaking up over the situation in Sudan's war-torn Darfur region. But where George has opted for the diplomatic route, addressing politicians and members of the United Nations, Mira has taken her passion to the people. The 'Mighty Aphrodite' star was in the front lines of a protest held in New York's Central Park this weekend, with some 20,000 people attending the rally.Speaking to People magazine, Mira compared the Darfur crisis to the Holocaust and genocide in Rwanda.'This is the same thing happening again,' she told the magazine. 'How can we not pay attention to this?'Mira also praised fellow Hollywood star George for visiting Darfur and taking action about the situation in the region.'If someone who people look up to and who has great fame cares passionately about something and is acting in good faith, I applaud it,' she said.Later this week, Mira will address Congress in Washington on this issue.Mira was joined at the New York rally by singer Suzanne Vega and former US secretary of state Madeleine Albright.
